BLURB:

She’s the other sister…

Overshadowed by the beauty of her older sister, Lillian is better known as the other Tisdale; unremarkable and unsure how she will ever deliver on the promise of her family's name.

He’s a rake in need of reforming…

Will Colton leads a frivolous existence, embracing notoriety instead of managing his family’s fortune. Determined to forget his financial burden and his father’s growing resentment, he maintains a lifestyle dedicated to pleasure and self-indulgence. When Will is invited to the Tisdale estate for an extended holiday, he never expects to become friends with the forgettable Lillian. But when a family secret comes to light, he must choose between leaving London and protecting the honor of one woman or staying and risking the reputation of another.

Upon his return, Will finds the girl he left behind has come out of the shadows and into her own. Lillian’s finally the center of attention, and not all of it good. With his own reputation in tatters, can a reformed rake lure her out of the hands of London's bachelors and back into his own arms? Can he escape his past and reclaim her heart, or has he lost her forever?

My Review:

It 's a historical novel romantic, sweet, funny and engaging, to be read from cover to cover.
The two main characters meet in a very funny way: Lillian is on her favorite tree when she sees Will Colton, a friend of his brother Thomas, flirt with a woman. To try to hide ends up falling down and breaking an arm. Will rescues her and brings her in his arms. Lillian is the sister that nobody remembers, always overshadowed by the beauty of her older sister Ambrose. Will is the classic libertine and who doesn't want to grow up and assume his responsibilities. Among them will be born before a pleasant friendship that soon become attraction and then love. But there are many obstacles and sorrows in their journey. Grow and mature both: Lilly finally released from her shadow and Will will be ready to assume his responsibilities ....
It's the third book of Tisdale family, you can read very well as a stand alone.
Jessica Jefferson has a style truly engaging and sparkling, is the first book of her I read but I can not wait to read the others.

EXCERPTS:

“I thought he’d never leave.”

Lilly jumped at the sound of the unexpected voice coming from behind her. She turned and saw Will Colton leaning with his back against the other side of the pillar.

“Lord Colton?” she hissed, careful to keep her own voice down. “What are you doing?”

“Standing here, enjoying the evening. And you?”

She rolled her eyes. He wasn’t worth the effort it would take to disguise her annoyance. Was the man ever able to give a straight answer? “Have you been there for long?”

“Long enough.”

She pursed her lips together.

“Rockfort’s certainly in a mood,” he observed nonchalantly.

Furious, Lilly fisted her hands at her sides. “So, you were eavesdropping.”

He shook his head. “Not at all. It would be impossible not to overhear your little spat.”

“It wasn’t a spat.”

Will shrugged, his wide set shoulders stretching the cut of the jacket to its limits. She noticed it was of decent quality, but was a bit too small for him, as if he’d had it tailored a few years prior to filling out. “It certainly sounded like a spat.”

She crossed her arms over her chest. “Well, I assure you, it wasn’t. Now, is there a reason you’re hiding behind this pillar or are you just skulking for the sheer fun of it?”

“Well, the potted palm was taken, so this was the next best hiding place to get you alone.”

“And why would you need to get me alone?”

“Because I need to talk to you.”

“Well, I’m afraid I have nothing to say to you, so you may as well move on to another column and go listen in on someone else’s conversation.” She turned back around and stared out into the room.

“Lilly ...” He moved closer to her, being careful to remain concealed from public view.

“Miss Lillian,” she corrected. His body stood close, much closer than she felt comfortable being.

“Miss Lillian, I need to speak to you,” he spoke in a hushed tone. The warmth of his breath brushed across her arm, the bare skin prickled in response.

“Well, this is certainly not the place.”

“Then where?” he asked in a strangled whisper. “I’ve been to your home twice this week and your family wouldn’t see me.”

“My arm was hurting.” She reached up and rubbed the naked flesh of her upper arm, willing her nerves to settle.

“It looks to have recovered quite nicely. You seem to have had no problem dancing tonight.”

She turned back around and faced him. “Not you, too?”

Will smiled lopsidedly. “I can’t say I’m not jealous, but I promise not to act like some simpering ninny about it.”

“Lord Rockfort is not a simpering ninny.”

“Well, he could have fooled me with that little display. The man was throwing a tantrum. Perhaps he missed his nap today?”

“What do you need, Lord Colton?” she asked, exasperated.

“I already told you, I need to speak with you.”

“Then speak,” she bit back.

“I can’t. Not here.”

She shrugged, her lips tipping up into an insolent smile. “Well, then I suppose this conversation is finished.”

“Lilly ... please.”

The pleading in his voice took her aback. Suddenly, she felt her bravery start to slip away, her cheekiness impeded by the tender memory of shared intimacies.

“Just give me a chance,” he asked again, his blue eyes locked in on hers, a gaze she felt all the way to her soul. He looked visibly distressed; worry lines marked the space between his brows, as if he’d spent a good part of his time away in a perpetual state of frowning. It had only been two years, yet he looked as if he’d aged at least five. He was still handsome, unbearably so, but the boy she’d once known was nowhere in the face of the haunted man who stood before her.

  1. Enjoyed reading the review today. Jessica, in what other genres, if any, would you like to write?

    1. I'm working on two contemporaries - one is pretty naughty, while the other is new adult. I like being able to use my sense of humor, no matter what the period.
